How to Make Whipped Herb Butter

Start with 1 stick (4 ounces) of butter that’s been softened to room temperature. Add it to a bowl and whip it with a hand mixer for 45 seconds to 1 minute, until it gets fluffy.

Whipped Butter

Now it’s time to have fun with folding in your favorite flavor combinations. Add chopped herbs and flavor enhancers to the whipped butter. Fold together with a spatula.

Mixed Compound Butter

Transfer the butter to the center of a piece of plastic wrap. Wrap it over and seal, using your hands to form a log. Refrigerate for 1 hour, up to overnight, before removing plastic and slicing for serving.

Ingredients 

Lemon Garlic Butter

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons basil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 lemon, zested
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Thanksgiving Herb Butter

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon sage
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Dill & Chive Butter

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon dill
  • 2 tablespoons chives
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions 

  • Add butter to a bowl and mix with a hand mixer for 45 seconds to 1 minute to whip.
  • Fold in other ingredients, until well combined.
  • Transfer to a piece of plastic wrap, and fold over to form a log. Twist ends and tighten.
  • Refrigerate for an hour, up to overnight, to set up.
  • Unwrap, slice into ½-inch thick rounds and serve.

Notes

Once set, compound butter can be frozen for up to 3 months. Ensure it is tightly wrapped in plastic and placed in a well-sealed zip-top bag.
