There’s something that just feels right about having a little bar snack to enjoy while you wait to order your beverage of choice. That was the vision I had when I first started making these Seasoned Pretzels.

It was just a few years ago, and I was exploring the opportunity of buying a bar in my neighborhood. I spent several months building a team, developing a refreshed menu and working many nights in the kitchen before the deal fell apart.

But these Barbecue Ranch Pretzels have survived. The flavor combination has become so inspiring that it let to the creation of these Barbecue Ranch Deviled Eggs.

Enjoy these pretzels for game nights, football watch parties or any occasion that calls for a savory snack.

Why These Seasoned Pretzels Work

You’ve seen flavored pretzels pop up on store shelves, but nothing beats this homemade version. These take classic ranch pretzels that are already good and add a slight, sweet heat that gives them that extra snackable edge.

Here’s why you’ll love them:

  • Big flavor with minimal effort
  • Perfect homemade bar snack or party nibble
  • Make-ahead friendly and shelf-stable
  • Easy to customize with different spice blends
  • No fancy ingredients required

These ingredients are easily found at most supermarkets and by shopping your spice cabinet at home.

  • Pretzel twists: Classic mini pretzel twists hold up well to the oil and seasoning, with plenty of nooks and crannies to grab onto the flavor.
  • Vegetable oil: A neutral oil helps the seasonings coat evenly without overpowering the savory spices. Canola oil also works well.
  • Ranch seasoning mix: This brings the salty, herby backbone that makes these pretzels instantly addictive.
  • Chili powder: Adds warmth and a subtle smoky depth that pairs perfectly with ranch.
  • Smoked paprika: Enhances the barbecue flavor with a touch of smokiness.
  • Cayenne pepper: Introduces just enough heat to keep things interesting. This is the spice to double or omit to adjust the heat level.
  • Garlic powder: Deepens the savory flavor from the ranch mix.
  • Dried dill: Optional, but recommended to strengthen the herb balance introduced with the ranch.

How to Make Barbecue Ranch Pretzels

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F. The low temperature bakes and dries the pretzels just enough to lock in the seasoning without burning the spices.

Make the seasoning by adding ½ cup vegetable oil to a large bowl and whisking in a 1-ounce ranch seasoning packet, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 2 teaspoons smoked paprika, ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder and ½ teaspoon dried dill.

Fold in the pretzels and stir until evenly combined. Transfer to a roasting pan – the extra space makes it easier to distribute and toss the pretzels – or rimmed baking sheet. Spread pretzels in an even layer.

Bake for 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Let the pretzels cool completely before serving. As they cool, the seasoning will set. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for at least a week, if they last that long!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do seasoned pretzels last?

Stored in an airtight container, these seasoned pretzels will keep for up to at least a week at room temperature.

Can I use homemade ranch seasoning?

Absolutely. If you have a homemade ranch blend you love, use about 2 tablespoons in place of the store-bought ranch packet.

Does this recipe work with other pretzels?

Mini pretzel twists hold seasoning well, but small pretzel sticks are great too. Go for a slightly thicker pretzel, as very thin pretzels can over-toast.

Can I make these spicier?

Yes. Adding an additional ½ teaspoon of cayenne will turn up the heat just enough. You also can reduce the spiciness by omitting the cayenne completely.

These BBQ Ranch Pretzels are exactly the kind of snack I wanted on the bar menu back then: simple, satisfying, and memorable enough to keep people coming back for more.

Whether you’re hosting friends, building a game day spread, or just want something salty to go with a drink, this seasoned pretzels recipe delivers every time.
