It’s the height of blueberry season here in Seattle, and I went to a U-pick farm to gather up a few pounds of sweet berries to create this Blueberry Smash Mocktail. There’s no added sugar in this drink that’s refreshing, citrusy and quite stunning thanks to the smashed blueberries.

If you’re looking for an easy mocktail for summer that will impress guests at your dinner party or brunch, give this one a try.

Blueberry Smash Mocktail Ingredients

This recipe is designed to make 2 drinks, though you could easily batch up the base and stir up a pitcher of these for a crowd. Here’s what you need to make a pair of drinks:

  • ½ cup fresh blueberries, plus more for garnish
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 6 to 8 fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish
  • Sparkling water
  • Ice
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)
  • Lemon and lime slices, for garnish (optional)

How to Make a Blueberry Smash Mocktail

  • Add blueberries, mint, lemon and lime juice and honey to a cocktail shaker or wide-mouth jar. Muddle until the blueberries are fully smashed and the mint is fragrant.
  • Pour in sparkling water – I prefer Topo Chico mineral water – and gently stir.
  • Fill two glasses with ice and strain the blueberry mixture over the top, dividing evenly.
  • Top each glass with additional sparkling water, as needed.
  • Garnish with extra blueberries, a sprig of mint and lemon and lime slices (optional).

Make It a Summer Cocktail

The base of this blueberry mocktail easily can be turned into a summer cocktail with the spirit of your choice. Add 2 shots of vodka or tequila after muddling the blueberries, then top with sparkling water.

You can use the fruit base to make a variation of the popular Blueberry Bourbon Smash by adding 2 shots of your favorite bourbon.

Tips and Recipe Suggestions

  • Start with chilled fruit and sparkling water for the most refreshing mocktail.
  • Substitute your favorite sparkling water flavor – a lemon-lime flavor works great – to give it even more fizzy flavor.
  • Find the sweetest blueberries you can get, and skip the honey to make this Whole30 compatible.

If you’re looking for other berry-forward drinks, try my Raspberry Lemon Sparkler. It’s a Whole30-compatible mocktail that counts on the natural sweetness of raspberries.
